Although its trademarked moniker is “Music City, U.S.A.,” Nashville truly has become the Athens of the South when it comes to public visual art, and has the Parthenon to prove it.
Aside from boasting the world’s only replica of the Greek temple complete with a 42-foot-tall gold-leafed Athena Parthenon statue and art museum, Nashville has also become a Mecca for contemporary mural and graffiti artists.
In fact, today there are more than 500 outdoor murals scattered around Nashville, which is one of America’s fastest growing cities with more than 1.2 million people in its sprawling Metro area of 526 square miles.
While the murals are scattered around the city’s neighborhoods, a tourist’s visit to the downtown entertainment hub wouldn’t be complete without a brisk walk around to see just a few of the eye-popping, giant murals painted onto the side of everything from parking garages to alleys. Here’s just a few of the murals of downtown Nashville. Check out the art blog dedicated to Nashville’s Public Art at https://nashvillepublicart.com/public-art-of-nashville/
