Get ‘em hot and ready at the V – Biscuits Unusual

Dynamic H-town Duo gets their musical biscuits out of the studio oven, and their buns on the stage
Five years and 70,000 calories ago the dynamic duo Boulevard Avenue (Parry Casto and Alex McCoy) brought forth in this muddy river city the flavor and all-star musician-packed multi-genre concept album, “Biscuits As Usual.”
To celebrate, Boulevard Avenue has baked up another fresh batch of songs called “Biscuits Unusual,” inspired by one of West Virginia’s favorite restaurants that celebrates strong West Virginia archetypes and taters both big and small.

You can lay hands and ears on the new EP, “Biscuits Unusual” and the original album “Biscuits As Usual” during at Saturday, Feb. 8 release party at Huntington’s V Club, 741 6th Ave., at 10 p.m. with special guests Massing and Tony Harrah, who is fresh back from making it to the semi-finals of the International Blues Competition in Memphis.

The backing band for Boulevard Avenue, many of which contributed as the original backing band for ‘Biscuits As Usual’ five years ago, form a veritable “who’s who” in West Virginia’s music scene.

The new project features four new songs,” Super Breakfast,” “Little Tater,” “Oats & Toast,” and “WTCR.” Like the first recording, the new EP stretches across multiple musical genres ranging from pop, country, and rock.

“Biscuits Unusual” was written by Casto and McCoy, and performed and recorded with multi-instrumentalist and keyboard wizard Randy Gilkey at the new Big River Records in Charleston, W.Va by studio engineers Brad Kinder and Tony Daniels.

“To celebrate the five-year anniversary of what we think is the quintessential West Virginia concept album,” said Casto, best known for fronting the regionally touring festival favorite band, M.F.B. “We have written four new songs that revisit the creative forum that yielded ‘Biscuits As Usual.’ We hope people come out to the EP release show because we want them to behold the spectacle that is ‘Biscuits Unusual,’ especially if they missed it the first time around. Not only is it a collection of great songs spanning across many genres, but it’s a show in itself. You can expect to have a great time, sing along with some really catchy songs, and to get caught up in the whole experience.”

Boulevard Avenue also plans to release the new EP (whose cover is by renowned biscuit painter, Brandy Jeffreys) for purchase through various online services.
