The hours of light are waning, the spooky season of Halloween is upon us soon and it is the perfect time to celebrate film around the state.
Here’s a look at some of the upcoming film events in the region.
Horror Shorts!!
Calling all horror lovers! Foundry Theater, (Jean Carlo Stephenson Auditorium) 800 Fifth Ave., is hosting its first Horror Shorts Film Festival at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13
Nineteen horror shorts were entered and 13 were chosen to be screened.
First, Second, and Third place films will be chosen and awarded at the festival by celebrity judges William Bitner, Tim Irr, and Justin McElroy.
Accompanying the top 13 shorts will be the premiere of “Gone Where the Goblins Go,” a locally-shot horror film based on the work of Appalachian author William Bitner.
Come early (doors at 6:30 p.m.) for an opportunity to walk the red carpet, snap some pics, and mingle with fellow filmmakers and film enthusiasts! Dressing up (cocktail attire, Halloween costumes, both?) is encouraged but not required. The auditorium is located on the second floor above Huntington City Hall.There is an elevator for accessibility.
This is a free event open to everyone, however, some of the short films we will be showing use strong language, so this event is not recommended for children to attend.
Localization – Films, Music, and Art on the Edge
The West Edge Factory, 1040 Vernon St., hosts the annual Localization at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 with an evening of local art vendors, a locally-curated film festival and live music with Hello June, Nolan Taylor and Ally Fletcher. This all-ages event is free and open to the public. Hocus Pocus at the Park
Come run amuck this October with your friends at GHPRD & HART! The Sanderson Sisters are back from the dead and headed to The Ritter (Amphitheater) on Saturday, Oct. 15, to put a spell on you!
Catch the hit Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus” under the stars, complete with a live shadow cast! Gates Open at 6:30 p.m., Costume Contest at 7:30 p.m., “Hocus Pocus” at 8 p.m.
Admission is $5, participation packs $10. Concessions and other merchandise will also be available for purchase.

The West Virginia Faith and Family Film Fest
Set for the weekend of Oct. 21-23 at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites & Courtyard Marriott. 20 Sweetbrier Lane, Bridgeport, WV this three-day event will feature multiple workshops on film production, acting classes, celebrity Q&A events and a BBQ networking social. One admission price of $75 and $50 for students cover all festival activities. VIP Dinner $100. Actor Dean Cain is tentatively scheduled to attend.

Film Screening of 100-Mile-Race Film
At 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, the historic Fayette Theater will be screening the Folkway film, “Into The Well: 100 Miles. 32 Hours. 200 Racers.”
“Into The Well: 100 Miles. 32 Hours. 200 Racers,” tells the story of personal endurance. An excruciating test of how far one is willing to push themself to achieve their dreams and accomplish their goals. Follow three West Virginians as they prepare for the first 100-mile ultramarathon in the New River Gorge National Park where they’ll take on a challenge far greater than they could ever have imagined.
On Sunday, Nov. 1, the film will be available to watch on The Folkway YouTube Channel. The film was directed and edited by Anthony Greene with his brother Nathan as the Executive Producer. Cinematography was by: Sam Adkins, Hunter Way, Braiden Maddox, Taylor Napier
and Kurt Schachner.

Fall International Film Festival
The Marshall Artists Series’ Fall International Film Festival returns with six acclaimed films Thursday–Saturday (Nov. 3-5) at the historic Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center in downtown Huntington.
Watch award-winning films on a drive-in-movie-sized screen with a brand new sound system!
Featured films include “Flee” (Denmark), “The Worst Person in the World” (Norway), “Official Competition” (Spain), “Happening” (France), “Hit the Road” (Iran), and “Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story” (USA).
