Béla’s Cosmic Banjo Phones Home

Flecktones 30th anniversary tour prepping to land at The Clay Center

Named after not one, not two but three symphonic composers, New York-raised banjoist Béla Fleck has long proved he is not of planet Earth. You are not alone, Mark Zuckerberg. Bela and his banjo-jazz-funk fusion unit The Flecktones (with such albums as “UFO Tufo,” “Flight of the Cosmic Hippo,” “Rocket Science” and “Three Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”) add to the pile of interplanetary evidence.

You can enter the Area 51 of musical fusion as 15-time Grammy winner Béla Fleck and the Flecktones (Victor and Roy Wooten and Howard Levy) land their 30th Anniversary Tour at The Clay Center on May 24.

A local pre-sale starts Thurs. 2/13 (code: FLECKTONES) and tickets are on sale Friday, 2/14 at the box office. While you waiting for the show, watch this PBS short documentary starring Fleck and his banjoist wife Abigail Washburn, who together have played Mountain Stage more than 20 times.
