HUNTINGTON – The Smithsonian-affiliated Heritage Farm Museum and Village draws in visitors from around the U.S., and the world to explore the Village to learn more about the history of our rugged Appalachian ancestors who felled trees, built their own cabins, grew their own food and carved out a good but tough life close to the Earth.
In a new and exciting chapter in Heritage Farm’s history, and in paying homage to the physical spirit of our hearty ancestors, the Farm has taken the story up a notch or two and into the woods with a number of aerial adventures similar to what you would find at top outdoors tourism destinations around the world.
Here’s a closer look at the mild to wild variety of aerial adventures now ready for exploration and fun up on the Farm, and for just about any age, but not just yet you cool babies. Note that the Adventure Experiences are open Thursdays through Saturdays.
Challenging Beginners at TreeRock
Located just a stone’s throw from a tree growing right out of giant rock, and just beyond the village playground is the family friendly aerial challenge course, TreeRock Challenge. The lower level being perfect for the little ones (ages 7 and up) in your family and the upper level will challenge all ages. Participants must weigh between 50 and 250 lbs. Online spots available between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 (includes an hour on the course AND general admission to the Farm). $20 for passholders; $12.50 for family plus.
Climb The Wall
If the elevated, elongated ropes course isn’t high enough for you, anyone 42-inches tall or more can harness up and try the rock climbing wall with no required time entry. It’s a great add-on deal as it is only $5 for all-day climb access (does NOT include general admission to the Farm). $4 for passholders; $2.50 for family plus passholders.
Adventure Up To the Hilltop
There in the heart of the Village, near the climbing wall and the TreeRock Challenge, folks can catch a ride on the Holler Hauler, a chauffeured UTV ride and is included within the price of TalithaKoum, RedTail Racers and Mountain Top Drop. If you just want to ride the UTV to the top and not do an adventure there, tickets are $10/ride (does NOT include general admission to the Farm). $8 for passholders; $5 for family plus passholders. Online spots available between 10:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. to take the wild, heart-pounding ride up the dirt (or mud) paths to the hill-top adventures.
Four Stories of Fun – TalithaKoum
The highlight of 2021 is the addition of TalithaKoum. Built on the mountain overlooking the village, this amazing aerial challenge course is more than four stories tall. Folks are safely harnessed and clipped in as they complete a variety of obstacle course treks from swinging ropes to high wire walking and other obstacles. Aerial Course adventurers must weigh between 75 and 250 lbs. and be at least 60 inches tall. Online spots available between 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Tickets are $40 (includes general admission to
the Farm). $32 for passholders; $20 for family plus passholders. For inquiring minds about the interesting name, “Talitha Koum,” is the Aramaic phrase “child arise,” referenced in the gospel of Mark and uttered by Christ during the resurrection of Jairus’ daughter.
Mountain Top Drop
Folks who want a four-story free-fall experience can try the Mountain Top Drop, which is included within the price of TalithaKoum but can be purchased separately if someone just wants the rush and thrill of stepping off a four-story high ledge in a controlled slide to the ground. Online spots available between 10:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. If being done separate from TalithaKoum, the Mountain Top Drop tickets are $20 (includes general admission to the Farm). $16 for passholders; $10 for family plus passholders.
RedTail Racers – Dual Ziplines
More than 1,000 feet-long, The RedTail Racers are a Dual Zipline ride that can take you and a friend side-by-side over the Village with a bird’s eye view and then back via a second set of ziplines and an even higher tower. Riders must weigh between 75 and 250 lbs. Online spots available between 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Tickets are $40 (includes general admission to the Farm). $32 for passholders; $20 for family plus passholders.
