Coffee in my cup

Yep, another Groundhog’s Day and another year when my coffee cup saw its shadow. Can’t have enough caffeine here in these last couple months of winter. Here’s a few great places to fill up around the Mountain State …

Grindstone Central, 818 8th St., Huntington – Australian native Brendan Finn and his Grindstone Coffeeology truck Bonnie have been a big hit in the region. Finn set up a brick and mortar spot on 8th Street in 2018, and completed an eye popping shipping container build-out at the cafe last fall. Try a Flat White with Coconut Milk in this unique and cozy, contemporary space. 606.369.7529.

The Hot Cup, 201 Stratton Street, Logan – Michael Cline and his crew serve up coffee and culture (every stripe of music, art, poetry, comedy and more). They just celebrated its eighth anniversary this week with an Avengers skit (complete with fireworks and soundtrack) that was front page news in the Logan Banner. Call 304.752.6500.

Lori’s Cup of Joe, 57 Four Seasons Drive, Hundred – She’s Lori, He’s Joe and together the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-native couple are the dynamic duo behind Lori’s Cup of Joe, a cute, log cabin drive-through that serves up coffee, espresso, pastries, lunch, breakfast and now in season, daily hot soups. 304.775.4059.

Joe N’ Throw Co-Op, 323 1/2 Adams Street, Fairmont – A coffee roaster and a potter met at a beard contest and the rest is history at this co-op where you can grab house roasted coffees, breakfast and lunch. Enjoy a brew (coffee or craft beers) while hand-building or wheel-throwing pottery at the studio. 304.816.4390.

The Wild Bean, 119 E. Washington Street, Lewisburg – Since May 2006, the Dolan’s Wild Bean have been serving up “darn good coffee for darn good people.” Get a cup of “Mud,” (dark and strong) locally roasted Red Rooster Coffee with breakfast or lunch both of which come with locally sourced and with many vegetarian options. Stay for the nightlife as regional and national act bands play the Bean. 304.675-3738.

Other great places to places to get a great cup of Joe: Books and Brew in Charleston and Hurricane, Taylor Books in Charleston, Cicada Books in Huntington, Nomada at Heritage Station, and The Old Village Roaster in downtown Huntington.
